You may be familiar with Sue’s Social Housing in Eastern Europe project but the last year or so has meant working closer to home. Her love of social housing and Hackney and roses have united together in this project. Four thousand Hackney homes were destroyed in the war and three thousand were severely damaged. The post war plan for Hackney was ambitious and the desire to house people well was consistent. The council asked RIBA to suggest six architectural practices to design housing and private gardens - careful landscaping was integral to the new look. Current older residents still remember moving into their beautiful newly built homes complete with wonderful landscaping. Original roses from this time continue to flourish.
